The Providence girls’ soccer team earned a spot in the Class A Switzerland County Sectional final on Thursday night, defeating Charlestown in the semifinals 8-0.
The Pioneers’ Kasey Wallace and Emma Roesner each scored two goals. Providence’s other goals came from Leah Mattingly, Erin Duncan, Kaitlyn Koopman and Grace Hess. Wallace and teammates Jordan Reger, Alyssa Jones and Mikaila Heavrin each had an assist.
The defending Class A state champion Pioneers (10-4-3) tallied their first four goals in the first seven minutes of the contest. Mattingly’s goal happened in the game’s second minute, followed a minute later by Duncan’s score.
Wallace’s two goals came after that, which were in the fourth and seventh minutes.
The Providence defense held Charlestown to one shot on goal.
The Pioneers’ opponent in Saturday’s 1 p.m. sectional championship will be the host Pacers, who defeated Silver Creek in Thursday’s first semifinal 2-1.
Trailing 1-0 in the first half, the Dragons’ Olivia Scarbrough tied the game at one with a goal in the game’s 27th minute.
But Switzerland County took the lead for good at the contest’s 78th minute on a score by Jade Mullins.
