SPORTS BUZZ: News and Tribune staff thoughts on London Olympics

    1. Which Olympic sports are you most interested in?
Women’s soccer. The U.S. soccer team tops the FIFA world rankings and is defending its gold medal from the 2008 games. If anything, this squad is better than the one that took the gold in Beijing.

    2. Which athletes are you most interested in seeing perform at the Olympics? Michelle Jenneke, Australian hurdler. Her pre-race dance at the 2012 World Junior Championships was a YouTube sensation, and it would be fun to see her become famous for something more.

    3. Which Olympic head-to-head matchup most interests you? Michael Phelps vs. the field, men’s swimming. It’s rumored that Phelps has been coasting through his training regiment ahead of the London games, but he still is favored to take home a stack of gold. Will his lax attitude catch up with him?

    1. Which Olympic sports are you most interested in?
I am most interested in track, wrestling, weightifting and swimming. There are several matchups in track I’m interested in, I used to wrestle and have done some Olympic weightlifting so I’m interested in watching people who are much better than I will ever be and I’m interested in swimming because of all the hype surrounding Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte.

    2. Which athletes are you most interested in seeing perform at the Olympics? I am interested in watching Lolo Jones, Oscar Pistorius, Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. I’ve heard a lot about Jones and her story, I am interested in seeing double-leg amputee Pistorius compete against able-bodied track athletes, Bolt was beaten by fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake in the Olympic trials, so I want to see how that turns out, and I want to see the rivalry between Phelps and Lochte. I’m also interested in how Phelps does because he took so much time off after the last Olympics that his coach wasn’t even sure if he would be ready in time for London.

    3. Which Olympic head-to-head matchup most interest you? It’s a tie between Phelps and Lochte and Bolt and Blake. Phelps and Lochte have been hyped up so much it’s hard not to be at least a little interested and I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of who is the fastest human on the planet, and I’m guessing his last name starts with a “B.”

    1. Which Olympic sports are you most interested in?
Like a lot of people, I always look forward to the Olympics. I enjoy watching the opening ceremony and seeing athletes from nations around the world walk into the highly energized arena proudly carrying the flag of their home country.

    2. Which athletes are you most interested in seeing perform at the Olympics? The summer Olympics offer so many great events, it is hard to choose a few favorites. I am especially excited, however, to see how our NBA players will match up against global competition. It will also be a lot of fun to see if Michael Phelps will be able to repeat his jaw-dropping 2008 Olympic performance.

    3. Which Olympic head-to-head matchup most interests you? The Olympics always take me back to my own aspirations to become a world-class athlete. Unfortunately, my limited athletic ability, dreadful coordination and mediocre high school wrestling career failed to earn a single Olympic nod. I can blame that on a string of coaches never recognizing my full potential, right?

Track and Field for the sheer speed and athleticism.

    2. Which athletes are you most interested in seeing perform at the Olympics? Tyson Gay, because he was running at University of Arkansas when I lived in Fayetteville.

    3. Which Olympic head-to-head matchup most interests you? It would be cool to see Serena and Venus Williams square off in an Olympic tennis finals.

    1. Which Olympic sports are you most interested in?
As a life-long swimmer, I love to see this sport headlining the games every four years. I hope my DVR can handle all the action!

    2. Which athletes are you most interested in seeing perform at the Olympics? Swimmers Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin, Clark Burckle, Claire Donahue, Eric Shanteau, Cullen Jones.

    3. Which Olympic head-to-head matchup most interests you? USA vs. Australia in swimming. Even though my favorite Aussie, Ian Thorpe, failed in his Olympic comeback attempt, there should still be plenty of exciting races between swimming’s super powers.
