• KEY FACTS: The Red Devils have not posted back-to-back victories over the Bulldogs since 1998-99. In fact from 1990-99, Jeff defeated New Albany 12 consecutive times. … Red Devil quarterback Tyler Fridley continues to have a record-setting season. He currently has 23 touchdown passes in 2012, which ties the single-season school record set by Jimmy Bolton in 1968. Also, Fridley’s career completion percentage of 61.4 percent is currently a school record.
• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Jeff’s offense vs. New Albany’s defense — The Bulldogs’ defense has definitely shown some improvement in 2012. New Albany has given up 16.5 points per game and posted its first shutout in six years in last Friday’s win at Madison. But with the exception of Columbus East, the Bulldogs have not faced an offensive juggernaut like the Red Devils this season. Jeff ranks 19th in the state and fourth in Class 5A in scoring offense at 44.5 points per game. The Devils average 484.2 total yards per contest. New Albany fans on Friday night will find out just how good their defense is.
CHARLESTOWN AT CORYDON CENTRAL

• PLACE: Corydon Central High School.
• RECORDS: Charlestown 6-0, 5-0 Mid-Southern Conference; Corydon 6-0, 4-0.
• SERIES RECORD: Charlestown leads 29-12.
• SERIES LAST 10 YEARS: Corydon leads 7-4.
• LAST MEETING: Oct. 28, 2011 at Dutch Reis Field — Corydon 33, Charlestown 28, Class 3A Sectional 23 semifinal.
• KEY FACTS: Each of the past four matchups between the Pirates and the Panthers have had a single-digit final margin. The average final margin in those games was 5.5 points. … Corydon quarterback Chase Burton ranks seventh in the state in passing yardage (1,469). He threw for 171 yards in the Panthers’ 24-16 victory last Friday at Paoli.
• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Burton vs. Charlestown’s defense — Charlestown coach Jason Hawkins says Burton is one of the best quarterbacks in the area and is concerned about the senior’s mobility in the pocket. The Pirates need to contain Burton and try to put some pressure on him if they want to stay in first place in the MSC.
FLOYD CENTRAL AT BEDFORD NORTH LAWRENCE

• SERIES RECORD: Floyd Central leads 20-18.

• LAST MEETING: Oct. 28, 2011 at BNL Stadium — Bedford 36, Floyd Central 32, Class 5A Sectional 8 semifinal.
• KEY FACTS: Four of the last five matchups have had single-digit margins, with the Highlanders winning three of the four games. The average final margin in the last five meetings was 6.8 points per game. … Both squads enter Friday’s meeting with losing records for the first time since 2002. That season, 2-4 Floyd Central defeated 0-6 Bedford, 21-7.
• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Floyd Central’s defense vs. Bedford’s offense - The Stars have been on a role on the offensive side of the ball as of late. They have averaged 48 points per contest in their last two games - both wins - over Seymour and Jennings County. As for the Highlander D, it has been struggling all season. Floyd Central has given up 37.5 points and 451.5 total yards per contest in 2012.
BROWNSTOWN CENTRAL AT CLARKSVILLE
• TIME: 7 p.m.
• PLACE: Clarksville High School.
• RECORDS: Brownstown 5-1, 3-1 MSC; Clarksville 3-3, 3-2.
• SERIES RECORD: Clarksville leads 29-26.
• SERIES LAST 10 YEARS: Brownstown leads 13-1.
• LAST MEETING: Sept. 30, 2011 at Blevins Stadium — Brownstown 48, Clarksville 27.
• KEY FACTS: The Braves have won 17 of the last 18 meetings with the Generals. In 10 of those 17 victories, Brownstown has scored at least 40 points each time. Clarksville’s last triumph in that 18-game span was a 14-13 home win in 2006. … Brownstown coach Reed May ranks 16th in the state in victories among active coaches with 191. In his 20 seasons at the Braves’ helm, May has never had a losing season. He has posted 10-plus victories in 11 of those campaigns.
• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Clarksville’s offense vs. Brownstown’s defense — The Generals’ offense has been on a roll as of late, averaging 40.5 points per game in victories against Salem and Silver Creek. But once again, the Braves’ defense is one formidable bunch. Brownstown is giving up only 13.2 points per game. Take out the 41 points they surrendered in their loss to Charlestown on Aug. 24, the Braves have allowed 7.6 points per contest this season.
NORTH HARRISON AT SILVER CREEK

• PLACE: Silver Creek High School.

• LAST MEETING: Sept. 30, 2011 at North Harrison — North Harrison 42, Silver Creek 26.
• KEY FACTS: The Dragons’ 41 points in last week’s setback to Clarksville were the most they have scored in a loss since they returned to varsity competition in 2010. In last year’s regular-season finale, Silver Creek tallied 40 points in a one-point loss at Crawford County. … The Cougars are trying to post their first winning record since 2006. That season, they went 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the MSC. In ‘06, North Harrison’s conference game with Brownstown was canceled because of weather.
• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Silver Creek’s defense vs. North Harrison’s offense — It is pretty much the same story each week for the Dragons’ D. If Creek’s defense plays well, which must include solid tackling and being physical up front, the Dragons have a good shot of winning. If Silver Creek struggles on defense, most likely it is going to lose.
EVANSVILLE BOSSE AT PROVIDENCE
• TIME: 8 p.m.
• PLACE: Murphy Stadium.
• RECORDS: Providence 2-4, Evansville Bosse 0-6.
• SERIES RECORD: N/A.
• SERIES LAST 10 YEARS: Providence leads 4-0.
• LAST MEETING: Sept. 30, 2011 at Evansville Bosse — Providence 7, Evansville Bosse 6.
• KEY FACTS: Each of the last three meetings have had a single-digit margin, with the average margin in that stretch being two points per game. Along with the Pioneers’ one-point victory last season, they won 43-40 over the Bulldogs in 2010 and 34-32 in 2009. … Providence scored at least 34 points in its first three meetings versus Bosse since the teams started playing each other in 2008. In those three games, the Pioneers averaged 43.7 points per contest.
• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Providence’s defense vs. Bosse’s offense — The Pioneers’ defense has had trouble stopping opposing offenses the past three weeks, giving up 40.7 points per game in that stretch. Providence’s defense might get a break this week, as the Bulldogs average only 17 points per game and have scored 14 points or less in each of the last four contests.
