Floyd Central seeks assistant coach

The Floyd Central football team has an opening for an assistant football coach.

Charlestown athletes, coaches earn conference honors

Several Charlestown athletes and coaches earned Mid-Southern Conference honors. They are: 

• Baseball: Tregg Scherer, Ryan Jones (honorable mention to Bristol Frazier);

• Softball: Alli Webster, Alyssa Price, Kaitlynn Henning (honorable mentions to Shelby Goedeker and Daisy Nichols); 

• Tennis: Erica Broady (honorable mention to Sarah Trotter); 

• Boys’ track: Josh Hurley; 

• Girls’ track: Jessica Farmer.

Additionally, Kevin Zollman was named the Mid-Southern Conference softball Coach of the Year.

IU East to hold 5K

The Indiana University East Run with the Wolves 5K Run/Walk will take place July 21 at the IU East cross country course in Richmond, Ind. 

Pre-registration is $15 (students are $10). Day-of registration is $20 ($15 students). 

The event includes a free “Run With Rufus” 1K Run/Walk. 

Proceeds benefit scholarships for the IU East Alumni Association and IU East Red Wolves Athletics. 

The 2011 Run with the Wolves drew a Wayne County Challenge record 548 finishers. 

The Run with the Wolves is part of the Wayne County Challenge racing series. Entrants are eligible for a Gatlinburg vacation and other door prizes, and all entrants will receive a tech racing shirt.

Day-of-race registration opens at 7 a.m. on July 21. The 5K run/walk starts at 8 a.m. The “Run With Rufus” 1K Run/Walk starts at 9:05 a.m. Awards will be presented at 9:25 a.m. at the Springwood Hall patio.
