CHARLESTOWN — Jeff/GRC’s 9-10 baseball team earned a blowout victory in its District V opener, 17-0 over Clarksville Wednesday.
Jeff, which scored at least three runs in each of its four offensive innings, scored its 17 runs on 17 hits.
“That is a good start,” Jeff coach Jeremy Thomas said. “We jumped on them early, which was a good confidence builder for us.”
Five different Jeff players had at least two hits, led by Jacob Grimes’ three-hit, three run performance. Grimes also had a triple. Drew Fifer, Dylan Thomas, Conner Christopher and Bradley Foster each also had a pair of hits. Fifer hit a double, scored twice and knocked in three runs. Christopher scored a pair of runs and RBIs and Foster scored three times.
Also for Jeff, Caleb Harris knocked in three runs and Jackson Kruer scored a pair of runs.
GRC used three pitchers in the win. With games on Friday (against host Charlestown) and Saturday (against New Albany), having all of its pitchers available could be a key.
“We’re playing three games in four days,” Thomas said. “That’s tough for 10-year-olds to play three games so close together. It can make it tough on your pitchers.”
