CHARLESTOWN —
The Jeff/GRC 11-12 baseball team rolled up 20 hits in a 27-3 victory over Scott County on Friday.
Already holding a 10-3 lead heading into the fourth inning, GRC iced the game with a 17-run fourth inning.
Timmy Borden and Bailey Falkenstein each went 4-for-4 at the plate. Borden knocked in four runs and scored five, while Falkenstein drive in six and scored four. Borden had a home run and two doubles. Falkenstein doubled three times.
Trey Bottorff was 4-for-5 with a home run and six RBI, scoring three runs himself.
Gerrin Moore picked up the win for the Jeff All-Stars.
Jeff/GRC (4-0) will play in the tournament semifinals on Thursday, July 12.
13 BASEBALL
• Jeff/GRC pounds Charlestown: Jeff/GRC extended its lead from three runs to 22 with a 19-run fourth inning, going on to down Charlestown in five innings, 23-4.
The Jeff All-Stars sent 23 batters to the plate in the fourth.
Bradley Cross picked up the win on the mound for Jeff/GRC, and helped his own cause by scoring five times. Teammate Matthew Harbeson scored four times.
Charlestown was charged with 11 errors in the official scorebook.
Jeff/GRC (1-1) will face New Albany on Thursday. Charlestown (0-2) will take on Silver Creek on Wednesday.
10 SOFTBALL
• New Albany no-nos Clarksville: New Albany held Clarksville hitless in an 18-2 victory on Friday.
Avery Vormbrock picked up the win for the New Albany All-Stars, pitching three innings and striking out seven batters.
For New Albany, Taylor Watt had four hits, while Morgan Jenks had three. Watt, Arihana McNeary and Kelsey Adams doubled for New Albany. Dani Grant had a triple in the win.
Adams also had an inside-the-park home run.
New Albany (1-0) plays Charlestown on Monday. Clarksville (0-1) takes on Silver Creek today.
