Grenadiers open KIAC play with win over Midway


The IU Southeast volleyball team opened Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a convincing win over Midway College on Thursday night at the Southeast Activities Building, 25-11, 25-9, 25-14.

Sara Schum leads the Grenadiers with six kills, Jade Troutman added five and Silver Creek High School graduate Lindsey Maymon chipped in four. Also for IU Southeast, Meaghen Tompkins dished out 25 assists and Kristen Newberry had 14 digs.

IU Southeast (4-3, 1-0 KIAC) will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 8 when the Grenadiers host a tri-match against KIAC rivals St. Louis College of Pharmacy and IU East. IU Southeast will play SLCOP at 10 a.m. and IU East at 2 p.m.

Borden golf scramble


The Borden High School boys’ basketball team will have its golf scramble on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Champions Pointe Golf Club, 1880 Champions Club Lane, Henryville. Registration will begin at 7 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

Cost is $300 per team, which includes cart, food, fees and prizes. Checks must be made payable to Borden High School.

Colts’ Friday Night Football Tour to stop at Providence


The Indianapolis Colts’ 2012 Friday Night Football Tour will visit Providence High School on Friday, Sept. 7 for the Pioneers’ home football game with Indian Creek.

The tour will open 1 1/2 hours prior to kickoff and will feature Colts In Motion, the Colts’ traveling museum. Colts In Motion is a 42-foot trailer, equipped with interactive videos, a chance to feel Field Turf and a behind-the-scenes look at the team.

The tour also will include Colts’ cheerleader autographs, a quarterback challenge football toss, Colts’ giveaways and a chance to register to win Colts’ tickets and prizes.

The Colts will make a $500 donation to both Providence’s football team and cheerleading squad on behalf of the tour sponsors.
