Will Kimmel best in his family at Salem
Sellersburg resident Will Kimmel finished the best within his family Saturday night in the 200-lap Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic at Salem Speedway.
Kimmel finished a career-high second at his home track, as he was one of three members from the Southern Indiana-based Kimmel family to finish in the top 10. Kimmel led 79 laps and finished 1.186 seconds behind winner Chris Buescher.
Nine-time ARCA Racing Series champion and Clarksville native Frank Kimmel, Will Kimmel’s uncle, finished fifth. The elder Kimmel is a nine-time winner at Salem.
Frankie Kimmel, Frank Kimmel’s son and Will’s cousin, placed seventh. The third-generation driver led 17 laps.
Tim George Jr. finished third, followed by Jared Marks. New Albany native Josh Clemons placed 12th after starting 18th. Henryville resident Darrell Basham was 14th.
ARCA’s next race will be Friday, Oct. 7 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Jeff alumni game
The Jeffersonville High School baseball team will host its first-ever alumni game Sunday, Oct. 2 at Don Poole Field, starting at noon.
Registration will begin at 10:45 a.m. Cost is $35 per player. All proceeds will go directly toward supporting the Jeff High baseball program.
Pre-registration is not required, but encouraged. Shirts will be provided for both teams.
Any former Jeff High player is welcomed to participate, and ex-Red Devil coaches are welcome as well.

In a dramatic back-and-forth affair, a Providence comeback attempt fell just short in a 6-5 loss to Eastern in the finals of the Class 2A Providence Sectional on Saturday.

Borden and New Washington bowed out in the semifinals of the Class A South Central Sectional on Saturday. The Braves lost to the hosts, 10-2, while the Mustangs fell in five innings to Lanesville, 10-0.

BOYS' GOLF: Floyd A-team fourth at Lafayette Jeff
The Floyd Central varsity golf team put up a team score of 323 to place fourth at the Lafayette Jeff Invitational on Saturday. Meanwhile, Floyd Central was third and Providence seventh at the Legends of Providence Invite at Champions Pointe.
