FLOYDS KNOBS —
The Floyd Central wrestling team won all five of its dual meets last Saturday to claim the Floyd Central Invitational title.
The Highlanders defeated Corydon Central (73-6), Vincennes Lincoln (73-4), South Oldham (Ky.) (67-9), Oldham County, which was ranked eighth in Kentucky (37-29), and Seymour (74-6).
Seven Floyd Central wrestlers went 5-0 during the tournament. They were Terrence Kennedy, George Emily, John Meldrum, Chase Herron, Jackson Randall, Lance Youtsey and Nick Ottersbach. Highlander senior Kolton Popp was 3-0.
Going 4-1 for Floyd Central were Austin Ward, Chris Whitley and Ian Bagwell. Ward won the match of the day, defeating Corydon standout Bailey LaHue 5-2.
NEXT: Floyd Central at Mater Dei Holiday Classic in Evansville, Dec. 28-29.
SWIMMING
• Red Devil boys second at Hamilton Southeastern: The Jeffersonville boys’ swimming team finished second last Saturday at the Hamilton Southeastern Splash-N-Clash Invitational.
T Martin led the Red Devils by winning the 50- and 500-yard freestyles. He broke the 10-year-old meet record in the 500 freestyle.
Martin also helped Jeff’s 400 freestyle relay team finish second. Other relay team members were Karol Schmuck, Zach Griffis and Evan Shine.
The Red Devil girls’ team wound up sixth. Alexa Waldrip paced the Jeff girls by placing second in diving. Teammate Karlee Demsey finished sixth in the 200 individual medley.
