The Borden girls’ basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2012-13 season on Friday night, falling at Eastern 51-46.Sophomore Kristen Nestor led the Braves with 18 points, as she knocked down two 3-pointers. Teammate Abby Ellis chipped in 10 points, while Borden junior guard Shelby Kirchgessner scored nine.
The Braves took a 18-14 lead after the first quarter. But the Musketeers bounced back in the second by outscoring Borden in the period, 12-7 to take a 26-25 halftime lead.
With Eastern still up one point 36-35 at the end of the third, it outscored the Braves, 15-11 in the fourth to pull out the five-point victory.
“In the first quarter, Eastern pressed us and we were able to score off their press,” Borden coach Terry Rademacher said. “But for the rest of the game, they went to their half-court defense and we struggled against it. It was a close game throughout. They just got a couple more shots to go in. Our girls played hard.”

“She killed us in the second half,” Hornets’ coach Josh Conrad said. “She pretty much drove down the court and knocked down shots.
Freshman Emily Hollis paced Henryville with 19 points. Senior guard Jasmine Harrell chipped in 14.
