• Rena Philpot (Spalding softball, Floyd Central graduate, Sr.) — weekly stats: 8-for-12, four RBIs, two runs scored, one double, one triple; 3-0 record, 21 innings pitched, six runs allowed (five earned), 14 hits, 24 strikeouts, eight walks; top performance: 3-for-4 with a run scored and the winning pitcher in a starting role in the Golden Eagles’ 4-3 victory over St. Mary-of-the-Woods in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championship game on Thursday in Akron, Ohio, seven innings pitched, three runs allowed (all earned), six hits, six strikeouts, five walks; Philpot’s record: 19-4; team records: 31-12 overall, 12-4 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.



CHARLESTOWN

• Justin Braxton (Indiana State men’s track, Jr.) — top performance: first in the 200-meter dash finals at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend in Wichita, Kan., 21.42, personal record; notes: first in the 200 preliminaries, 21.49; first in the 100 dash prelims, 10.5; second in the 100 finals, 10.49; third in the 400 relay, 40.99; Baxtron’s time in the 100 finals is the ninth-fastest in program history, as he finished only .05 seconds behind conference champion Jarred Herring of Northern Iowa; the Sycamores won the conference title for the second year in a row.



FLOYD CENTRAL

• Ben Boesing (Southern Indiana men’s tennis, Jr.) — notes: Boesing has been named to the NCAA Division II Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV at-large first team.

• Ben Engle (IUPUI men’s golf, Sr.) — notes: 35th after the first round of the NCAA Division I Norman (Okla.) Regional on Thursday with a 2-over-par 74.

• David Frank (Indianapolis men’s golf, So.) — notes: 19th in the NCAA Division II Championship this week at The Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky., with a three-round score of 216, even par (73 in the first round, 72 in the second, 71 in the final); the Greyhounds finished 11th as a team.

• Meghan Jones (Bellarmine women’s track, So.) — top performance: first in the 1,600 relay at the Cardinal Twilight last Friday in Louisville, 3:48.16, school record, NCAA provisional qualifying mark; notes: second in the 400, 55.52 seconds.

• Emma LaDuke (IU Southeast women’s tennis, Sr.) — notes: No. 4 singles loss (6-0, 6-0) and No. 1 doubles setback (8-0) in the Grenadiers’ 9-0 loss to William Carey in the first round of the NAIA Women’s Tennis National Championships on Tuesday; team records: 18-6 overall, 16-0 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
