NEW ALBANY —
Like it did in last Saturday’s New Albany Invitational, the Bulldogs edged rival Providence, 3-2 in a dual match on Friday at Community Park.
New Albany’s Arvind Dhanapal defeated Nolan Carrico at No. 2 singles and the Bulldogs swept the doubles’ matches to get the win.
At No. 1 doubles, Ryan Zirnheld and Brett Medley won the first easily, 6-1 over Weston Spalding and Luis Garcia. Zirnheld and Medley then needed to win 9-7 in the second-set tiebreaker to take the point. At No. 2 doubles, Jake Kennard and Tanner Goller swept Patrick McPhillips and Brad Haas, 6-4 and 6-3.
Will Andres at No. 1 singles and Jacob Quinkert at No. 3 singles won for the Pioneers. Both are 8-0 on the season.
“We made too many mistakes in the other spots,” Providence coach Scott Gurgol said. “I can live with getting beat, but I don’t like to see our guys handing away points.”
