H.S. ROUNDUP: Dragons fall at No. 7 Brownstown in three

New Wash, Jeff win matches against Clark County foes

BROWNSTOWN — In a crucial Mid-Southern Conference match on Thursday, the Silver Creek volleyball team suffered a 25-11, 25-11, 25-21 loss at Class 3A No. 7 Brownstown Central.

Haley Garr led the Dragons with seven kills, while teammate Danni Densford spiked six. Silver Creek freshman Brynn Ware made 10 digs. Also for the Dragons, Kaitlyn Ramser made eight assists and Sammi Smith chipped in seven.

“Going into the match, I thought we would block better. But we only had one block in the first game,” Silver Creek head coach Jeff Zimmerman said. “They played well the first two games.”

NEXT: Silver Creek (7-4, 2-1 MSC) at Jeffersonville Invitational, Saturday.

• Mustangs defeat Henryville: Caroline Ricks had 19 kills and two blocks and teammate Ashley Johnson had 10 digs and five service aces to lead host New Washington past Henryville, 25-20, 25-16, 25-12. Sophomore Kerri Cochran paced the Hornets with nine kills.

NEXT: New Washington (9-2) at Corydon Invitational, Saturday; Henryville at Jeffersonville Invitational, Saturday.

• Red Devils defeat Clarksville: Visiting Jeffersonville defeated Clarksville, 25-21, 25-11, 24-26, 25-15. For the Generals, Ali Sparkman had 15 digs and 13 kills, Katey Duggan dished out 14 assists and Kayla Wallace made 10 digs.

NEXT: Jeff hosts Jeff Invitational, Saturday; Clarksville (1-9) at Rock Creek Academy Invitational, Saturday.

• Lions win first match of 2012: Host Rock Creek Academy won its first match of the 2012 season with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-21 victory over South Central. Kylie Tincher led the Lions with six kills, followed by teammate Susan McCoy with five.

NEXT: Rock Creek (1-2) hosts the Rock Creek Invitational, Saturday.

• Pirates lose to North Harrison: Emily Young made four blocks as host Charlestown fell to North Harrison, 25-12, 25-11, 25-11. Teammates Megan Brooks and Cassie Martin each made five digs.

NEXT: Charlestown at Clarksville, Monday.



BOYS’ TENNIS

• Dragons stay undefeated in MSC: Silver Creek improved its MSC record to 5-0 with a 5-0 home win over Corydon Central on Thursday.

Winning in singles action for the Dragons were Jake Steele at No. 1 singles, Andrew Eckert at two singles and Nick Sprinkle at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, Silver Creek’s Isaac Corum and Anthony Less knocked off Dalton Arnold and Nick Keith, 6-0, 6-0. The Dragons’ No. 2 doubles team of Gabe Bauer and Braden McCartney won 6-1, 6-4.

NEXT: Silver Creek (5-3) at Jasper Invitational, today and Saturday.

• Jeff wins at Jennings: Visiting Jeff dropped only five games in singles action in a 5-0 triumph at Jennings County. The Red Devils’ Jordy Rigsby, Austin Hunt and Brock Winchell won their respective singles matches.

NEXT: Jeff hosts Floyd Central, Wednesday.

• Pirates top Eastern: The No. 2 doubles team Tyler Massie and Zach Whitten collected Charlestown’s match-winning point in its 3-2 win at Eastern. Also winning for the Pirates were Chris Braun at No. 1 singles and Kyle Jackson at No. 3 singles.

NEXT: Charlestown at Warren Central Invitational, Saturday.

• Braves sweep Paoli: Host Borden won four matches in straight sets in a 5-0 victory over Paoli. The match of the day was at No. 1 doubles, where the Braves’ tandem of Cody Craddock and Dylan Scott beat Evan Marshall and Michael Fullington 7-6(5), 6-7(3), 7-6(5).

NEXT: Borden (5-7) at Brownstown Central, Monday.



BOYS’ SOCCER

• Lions down Henryville: Will Brown recorded a hat trick in host Rock Creek Academy’s 4-1 win over Henryville on Thursday.

Ronald Karenzi scored the Lions’ other goal. Rock Creek’s Gideon Nzombi had two assists, while Tanner Gerth had one.

Alex Vodt kicked in the Hornets’ lone goal.

NEXT: Rock Creek at Austin, Wednesday.

• Christian Academy ties Floyd JV: The Christian Academy varsity team and the visiting Floyd Central junior varsity squad played to a 1-1 tie. Minho Lee scored the Warriors’ goal, while the Highlanders’ score came from Elliott Hauber.

NEXT: Christian Academy (1-5-3) hosts the Southern Indiana Soccer Classic, Saturday.



GIRLS’ SOCCER

• Providence blanks Presentation: Five different players registered a goal in host Providence’s 5-0 victory over Presentation Academy from Louisville.

Scoring goals for the Pioneers were Jordan Reger, Erin Duncan, Alyssa Jones, Leah Mattingly and Savannah Kierstins.

Providence’s Emma Roesner had two assists, while Reger dished out one.

NEXT: Providence (4-3-1) at Louisville Atherton, Saturday.

• Dragons roll past Christian Academy: Alexis Barnett recorded a hat trick to lead host Silver Creek past Christian Academy, 8-0. Teammate Olivia Scarbrough had two goals and two assists, while the Dragons’ Shelby Shultz, Lexy Kiper and Sydney Ledwedge each scored a goal.

NEXT: Silver Creek (3-1-1) at Silver Creek Tournament, Saturday; Christian Academy at Scottsburg, Monday.
