“I’m really happy for the kids. They’re a fun group to coach and they came through in a big way today,” said Henryville head coach Robin Embry, who was named SAC Coach of the Year. “Evan played very well. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — some college coach is going to look very smart when they sign him.”

• Hornets sweep twinbill, win SAC: On Saturday, host Henryville captured the outright SAC championship by beating Class A No. 5 South Central in the first game of a doubleheader, 11-4. The Hornets then swept the Rebels with a 7-6 win in Game 2. It was Henryville’s first conference title since 2009.
Henryville’s Cody Reister had a big day, going 4-for-6 with two RBIs in the twinbill. Reister smacked a two-run homer in the fifth inning of Game 1, putting the Hornets up 5-3. He also was the winning pitcher in the contest, throwing a complete game. Reister allowed four runs (all earned) on nine hits, striking out five.
Teammate Bailey Hall went 3-for-4 with five RBIs in Game 1. He blasted a three-run shot in a six-run sixth to put Henryville (13-12, 5-0 SAC) up 11-2.
Five Hornets collected two hits each in Game 2. They were Reister, Joey Martin, Dakota Harrell, Jordan Hahn and Brent Taylor. Harrell had three RBIs. In the bottom of the first, Martin led off the frame with a solo shot, followed by Harrell’s two-run homer with one out.
“We’ve had a difficult year, getting off to a rough start with all the tornado stuff,” Hornets’ head coach Jeff Schroeder said. “The guys finally broke through today, putting two good games together. I’m proud of them.”
Henryville will host Class 4A No. 5 New Albany on Monday.
• Red Devils go 1-1 in split twinbill: Jeff won the first game of a home split doubleheader against Bloomington South, 7-1. But the Red Devils lost the nightcap to Bloomington North, 6-5.
Jeff pitcher Trent Astle went the distance against South to get the victory. The Red Devil left-hander surrendered one earned run on four hits. Jeff’s Nick Gallagher, Drew Ellis and Dalton Conway each collected two hits.
Conway went 3-for-4 in the second game against North. The Red Devils’ Chandler Dale contributed two hits.
“Obviously in the first game, we hit the ball really well. We strung some hits together,” Jeff interim head coach Lonnie Oldham said. “But in the second game, we didn’t field the ball well. You can’t beat good teams making four errors.”
The Red Devils (15-7) will visit Scottsburg on Tuesday.
• Highlanders lose to both Bloomington schools: Floyd Central lost both games of its split doubleheader with the Bloomington schools.
The Highlanders (15-11) opened the twinbill with a 4-2 loss to North. The Cougars broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh with three runs.
Floyd Central made 10 errors to lose the nightcap to South, 13-5. Highlander junior Derek DeSpain smacked a home run.
The Highlanders will face Jeff in the first round of the Class 4A Jeff Sectional at about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

“We still made a few silly mistakes today. But it was nice to see a lot of young guys step in today and contribute in many ways,” Pirates’ head coach Ricky Romans said. “We will need those contributions come sectional time.”
Charlestown (19-9) received a first-round bye in the Class 3A Silver Creek Sectional. The Pirates will play either North Harrison or Salem in the first semifinal at 11 a.m. one week from Monday. The Mustangs (9-11) will play in the Class A South Central Sectional semifinals at 10 a.m. next Saturday.
• Braves end regular season with sweep: Host Borden concluded its regular season by sweeping Shawe Memorial in a doubleheader. The Braves (8-14) posted an 8-3 victory in Game 1 and a 4-2 triumph in the nightcap.
Borden’s Garrett Vick had two doubles in the opener, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Teammate Jared Sanders collected two RBIs. The Braves’ Sam Beckort had a pair of hits in Game 2.
Borden’s two starters on Saturday — Kyle Kruer and Garreth Stephens — each got wins. Kruer threw a complete game in Game 1, allowing one earned run on five hits with 14 strikeouts.
Stephens lasted 5 2/3 innings in Game 2, yielding two earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts. Vick got his first save of the season in the second contest, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
“We played good baseball,” Braves’ head coach Brian Agnew said. “We got runners in scoring position and got some big hits. Kyle Kruer striking out 14 keeps you in any game. In the second game, Garreth pitched a nice game.”
Borden will play South Central in the Class A South Central Sectional semifinals at about 12:30 p.m. next Saturday.

Providence (16-12) will face Eastern in the Class 2A Crawford County Sectional semifinals at about 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
• Pirates finish second in Charlestown Invite: Following a 12-0 semifinal win in five innings over Crothersville, Charlestown lost to Brown County in the Charlestown Invitational title game, 9-4. The loss to the Eagles snapped the Pirates’ 20-game winning streak.
Pirate pitcher Alli Webster tossed a no-hitter against Crothersville, striking out 13.

“All in all, it was a pretty good day although we wanted to keep our 20-game win streak alive,” Charlestown head coach Kevin Zollman said. “It was bound to end sooner or later. Brown County is a good team.”
The Pirates (21-4) will face Scottsburg in the first round of the Class 3A North Harrison Sectional at about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
