Shepherd wins scholarship, state title in same weekend
Jeffersonville’s Alonzo Shepherd streak of victories continued through the weekend when he won a state championship and a collegiate scholarship.
Shepherd won the Indiana State Wrestling Association’s freestyle championship in his weight class on Sunday.
He was also named a recipient of the ISWA Founders’ Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship awarded to five wrestlers in Indiana each year.
Shepherd becomes the second Jeffersonville wrestler to earn the scholarship, as Daniel Rosbottom won the award in 2005.
Shepherd, a three-time All-State selection and National Honor Society member, will attend Indiana University in the fall.
