SELLERSBURG —
Two Clark County high schools will serve as the site for a weekend of basketball for a good cause Friday and Saturday.
The Legacy Tournament with alumni from area schools begins at 6 p.m. Friday at Charlestown High School and continues at 10 a.m. the following day. Brackets become available on www.hoosierhillshoops.com tonight. The championship game for this tourney begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at Silver Creek High School.
The 6 p.m. Saturday event at Silver Creek is being called A Night of Hoops and Hope for Southern Indiana, a fundraiser to help victims of the March 2 tornadoes. Outgoing senior boys and girls from Clark, Floyd, Harrison and Washington counties will play in the featured events of the evening. Girls stars play at 6 p.m. with boys to follow at about 8:30.
There will be live and silent auctions Saturday.
Matt Denison, a Southern Indiana basketball promoter and event coordinator, is spearheading the event.
“I felt it was important for the basketball community to step up and help the families that were affected by the horrific tornadoes,” Denison said for a previous article. “We wanted to make sure we don’t duplicate any fundraising efforts.”
Your Community Bank is the event’s title sponsor and will house all funds for the event before the distribution of funds to relief groups.
“These are our neighbors,” said Ray Lucas, financial center manager for Your Community Bank’s main office. “These are our co-workers. Being a community bank, it’s important to be a partner with our community and those in need. We feel like it will be a great night and a great event. Southern Indiana basketball is something that brings us all together. We feel like it will be a night of healing as we watch basketball.”
A $5 minimum donation is required to get in to the games.
