FRIDAY'S FOOTBALL GAMES

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — CHARLESTOWN AT CLARKSVILLE

• TIME: 7 p.m.

• PLACE: Clarksville High School.

• RECORDS: Charlestown 2-0, 1-0 Mid-Southern Conference; Clarksville 1-1, 1-0.

• SERIES RECORD: Clarksville leads 22-20.

• SERIES LAST 10 YEARS: Charlestown leads 7-4.

• LAST MEETING: Sept. 2, 2011 at Dutch Reis Field — Charlestown 42, Clarksville 22.

• KEY FACTS: The Pirates’ current five-game winning streak in their series with the Generals is the longest in series history. During that streak, Charlestown has averaged 38.6 points per game, which included scoring 42-plus points in each of the past four contests. … Pirates’ quarterback Aaron Daniel currently ranks seventh in the state in rushing touchdowns with six. Last year, Daniel had the fourth-most rushing TDs in Indiana with 30.

• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Charlestown’s offense vs. Clarksville’s defense — The Pirates have already played two games this season and they are putting up some outstanding offensive numbers. Charlestown is averaging 54 points per game, which ranks sixth in the state. The Pirates are averaging 463.5 yards per contest. Obviously, the Generals will have their work cut out for them on Friday night.



BEDFORD NL AT JEFFERSONVILLE

• TIME: 7 p.m.

• PLACE: Blair Field.

• RECORDS: Jeff 1-1, 1-0 Hoosier Hills Conference; Bedford North Lawrence 0-2, 0-0 HHC.

• SERIES RECORD: Jeff leads 25-11.

• SERIES LAST 10 YEARS: Tied 6-6.

• LAST MEETING: Sept. 2, 2011 at BNL Stadium — Bedford North Lawrence 28, Jeff 21.

• KEY FACTS: The Stars’ current four-game win streak in their rivalry with the Red Devils is their longest in series history. But some of those victories have not been easy, as the final margin in three of those contests have been by single digits. … Jeff junior Austin Hines’ 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in last Friday’s 52-14 triumph at Seymour broke the school record. Hines had 263 all-purpose yards in the contest, which is the 10th-most in Red Devil history.

• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Bedford quarterback Jesse Millikan vs. Jeff’s defense — Millikan has all the skills to be a solid signal-caller. Plus he is a proven leader after leading Bedford to its first sectional championship last season. The Red Devils have shown they have improved on defense this season. They have given up only 21.5 points per game. Jeff also has made six sacks, forced four fumbles and snagged three interceptions.



NEW ALBANY AT JENNINGS COUNTY

• TIME: 7 p.m.

• PLACE: Jennings County High School.

• RECORDS: New Albany 1-1, 0-0 HHC; Jennings County 0-2, 0-0.

• SERIES RECORD: New Albany leads 25-12.

• SERIES LAST 10 YEARS: New Albany leads 6-4.

• LAST MEETING: Sept. 2 at Buerk Field — Jennings County 34, New Albany 29.

• KEY FACTS: The Panthers have won three in a row in the series, averaging 31.3 points per game. Prior to that win streak, the Bulldogs defeated Jennings nine times from 1999 to 2008. … New Albany has not started a season 2-1 since 2008. It was the last time the Bulldogs finished the season with a winning record as they went 6-4.

• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Jennings County’s running attack vs. New Albany’s defense — The past two seasons, the Bulldogs had no answer for former Panther running back Iyan Bass. The Jennings County graduate rushed for 495 yards and seven touchdowns combined in the Panthers’ last two victories over New Albany. Bass is gone and Jennings County’s offense has been struggling so far this season, averaging 10.5 points a contest. This is a great opportunity for the Bulldog defense to step up and show the Panthers they have improved.



MADISON AT FLOYD CENTRAL

• TIME: 7 p.m.

• PLACE: Ron Weigleb Stadium.

• RECORDS: Floyd Central 0-2, 0-0; Madison 1-1, 0-0.

• SERIES RECORD: Floyd Central leads 31-15.

• SERIES LAST 10 YEARS: Floyd Central leads 8-2.

• LAST MEETING: Sept. 2, 2011 at Cub Field — Floyd Central 45, Madison 21.

• KEY FACTS: The Highlanders have won their last five meetings with the Cubs. During that winning streak, Floyd Central has averaged 38.6 points a contest and recorded an average winning margin of 20.4 points per game. … Highlanders’ coach Brian Glesing has never started a season 0-3 in his six-year tenure at Floyd Central. The last time the Highlanders began a campaign with three consecutive losses was in 2006. That year, Floyd Central lost its first seven contests and ended up 1-9.

• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Madison wide receiver Jordan Partee vs. Floyd Central’s secondary — Partee had an unbelievable game in the Cubs’ 32-12 home victory over South Dearborn last Friday. Both of the junior’s receptions were touchdowns. One went for 34 yards and another one was for 78. Partee even returned a punt 52 yards for a score. Highlander defensive backs must be extremely aware of Partee’s whereabouts on the field on Friday.



CORYDON CENTRAL AT SILVER CREEK

• TIME: 7 p.m.

• PLACE: Silver Creek High School.

• RECORDS: Silver Creek 0-2, 0-1 MSC; Corydon 2-0, 1-0.

• SERIES RECORD: Corydon leads 1-0.

• SERIES LAST 10 YEARS: Corydon leads 1-0.

• LAST MEETING: Sept. 2, 2011 at Corydon — Corydon 54, Silver Creek 33.

• KEY FACTS: Silver Creek junior Drew Sherrow ranks 12th in the state in receptions with 12. Sherrow had four catches for 62 yards in the Dragons’ 28-14 setback last Friday at Salem. … Panthers’ quarterback Chase Burton is third in Indiana in total passing yards (542) and passing yards per game (271). Burton compiled 230 yards on 8-of-10 passing in Corydon’s 41-0 victory last Friday at North Harrison.

• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Burton vs. Silver Creek’s defense — Burton has been the main reason the Panthers have averaged 43 points per game this season. The Corydon QB and his offensive teammates have a chance to increase their numbers this week against a Dragon squad that surrenders 37 points a contest.



PROVIDENCE AT LOUISVILLE HOLY CROSS

• TIME: 7:30 p.m.

• PLACE: Alumni Field.

• RECORDS: Providence 1-1, Holy Cross 0-2.

• SERIES RECORD: N/A.

• SERIES LAST 10 YEARS: Holy Cross leads 3-0.

• LAST MEETING: Sept. 2, 2011 at Murphy Stadium — Holy Cross 41, Providence 8.

• KEY FACTS: For the fourth consecutive season, the Pioneers split their season-opening two games between archrivals New Albany and Floyd Central. Providence began the 2008 season with losses to the Bulldogs and the Highlanders. In 2007, the Pioneers kicked off the campaign with road victories over New Albany and Floyd Central. … Holy Cross has given up more than 30 points in each of their first two contests this season. Last season, the Cougars only surrendered more than 30 once, which was in their 44-0 loss to Mayfield (Ky.) in the quarterfinals of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Class A playoffs last season.

• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Providence’s offense vs. Holy Cross’ defense — The Pioneers hope to keep their offense running smoothly after running backs Owen Mattingly and Matt Bell combined to rush for 304 yards in last week’s 27-19 win over Floyd Central. Providence faces a Cougar defense that has given up 37.5 points per game this season.
