HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Highlander tennis defeats Cathedral, 3-2

Jeff earns victories Thursday in volleyball, boys’ soccer

INDIANAPOLIS —  Floyd Central improved to 2-0 with a 3-2 victory over Cathedral on Friday.

“We were hoping to get a win tonight. I’m pretty proud of what we did,” Highlander coach Rick Miller said. “We got down a couple of times and made some comebacks.”

The Highlanders’ doubles teams swept the Irish and Andrew Nguyen picked up a victory at No. 2 singles.

Floyd faces Brebeuf and North Central today.



BOYS’ SOCCER

• Jeff downs Elizabethtown:
On Thursday, Brian Fischer scored five goals to lead Jeffersonville past Elizabethtown, Ky., 7-1. Also for the Red Devils, Leonard Kwitonda had a goal and an assist, Skyler Davis kicked in a goal and Alex Duckworth and Jordan Vejar each dished out two assists.

NEXT: Jeff (2-0-1) at Louisville Trinity, Tuesday.



VOLLEYBALL

• Devils tops Charlestown in opener:
Jeffersonville swept Charlestown 25-13, 25-9, 25-23 in its season opener on Thursday.

Avery Brumit had 10 kills and Jena Reinhardt 21 assists for the Red Devils and each had four aces.

NEXT: Jeff (1-0) vs. Eastern, Tuesday; Charlestown (0-1) and Brownstown at Clarksville for double duals, Saturday.
