> SOUTHERN INDIANA —
Jeffersonville won its second Hoosier Hills Conference title in four years with a 4-1 victory over Columbus East on Friday.
“Columbus East had only lost twice all year, so this was definitely a good win,” Jeff coach Mark Reilly said. “Hoepfully this gives us some meomentum going into sectional week.”
Jeff (13-2) hosts Borden on Monday on Senior Night. The Red Devils host a sectional with the semifinals on Wednesday and a champion crowned on Thursday. Jeff has won five straight sectional crowns.
On Friday, Jordy Rigsby defeated a strong East sophomore, Seth Meyers, 6-1 and 6-2. The match lasted only 45 minutes.
“That got us going off in the right direction,” Reilly said. “That set the tone for us. Jordy is very quick. Seth is a great defensive guy, but Jordy was able to not give him any easy points. That was a good win by Jordy.”
Austin Hunt defeated Jonathan James at No. 2 singles, 6-2 and 7-5.
Freshmen were responsible for the Red Devils’ other two wins. Brock Winchell defeated Jo Jo Woolwine, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and the combo of Jack Reilly and Sam Coward beat Conner Jensen and Naveen Menon 7-5 in each set.
“Brock has been very strong at the 3 for us,” Coach Reilly said. “These freshmen have been a great attribute toward our team. They’re not playing like freshmen right now.”
