CHARLESTOWN —
Lexi Logsdon had a night to remember as host Charlestown’s Junior All-Stars swept Jeff/GRC in the District V best 2-of-3 series with Wedneday’s 27-7 triumph.
Charlestown scored 43 combined runs in the two victories and earned a trip to Clarksville for the Junior State Championships, which begin July 25.
“It’s awesome. It’s the best feeling ever,” Logsdon said.
Logsdon powered the Charlestown offense with her 4-for-5, three-triple, four-run, eight-RBI performance. She also pitched a complete game to pick up the win and she struck out six Jeff hitters.
“It’s been a while since I’ve had a game like I had today,” Logsdon said. “I’ve been on the last two day and I’m thankful for that.”
“She’s an excellent ball player,” Charlestown manager Darrell Adams said. “She knows how to drive the ball.”
Charlestown scored three runs to open the contest — on a Logsdon two-RBI triple and a Sarah Willinger RBI single that plated Logsdon — before a lightning delay interrupted Jeff’s half of the first inning.
Jeff countered with three runs of its own to knot the contest at 3-3. Riley Lovan had an RBI singled, which was followed by a Demetria Towns triple. Towns had a big game of her own, going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and a run.
Charlestown then broke the game open with seven runs in the second inning and put Jeff away with 11 more in the third.
The top four hitters in the Charlestown lineup — Leah Sherrill, Brooke Adams, Logsdon and Willinger — combined to score 16 runs and drive in another 16. Sherrill scored five times, Adams went 3-for-3 with four runs and three RBI and Willinger was 3-for-3 with three runs and three driven home. Taylor Glover added a 2-for-2, three-run, three-RBI outing in the No. 9 spot.
“We were on fire,” Logsdon said. “We came out hitting the ball amazing. We had RBI after RBI after RBI.”
“The bats came alive,” Darrell Adams added.
This Charlestown group had been to district title game as 9-10-year-olds and again in the 11-12 division and had lost both. The 11-12 loss was the Jeff.
“(Winning district) was something these girls wanted to accomplish,” Adams said.
