In that stretch, Charlestown has outscored the Generals, 107-26. … Hawkins served as an assistant coach under current Clarksville coach Steve Cooley for one season when Cooley was the head coach at Jeffersonville. … The Generals have not started a season 0-3 since 2004 when they went 5-5.

• KEY FACTS: Prior to last year’s loss to the Panthers, the Bulldogs had won five games in a row in their series with Jennings. In those victories, New Albany averaged 35.6 points per game. … The Bulldogs have already scored 30-plus points in both of their games this season. That matches the two games they scored more than 30 all of last season. … Prior to this year, New Albany had split its first two contests only once in the past five seasons, which occurred in 2008. It started 0-2 in the other four years.
• MATCHUP TO WATCH: New Albany’s rushing duo of Chris Whitehead and Jalen Forrest vs. the Jennings County defense — Forrest ran for 151 yards, while Whitehead had 135 in the Bulldogs’ 31-22 home victory over Castle last Friday. Plus Whitehead rushed for 344 yards in New Albany’s 47-46 overtime loss to Providence in Week 1. The Panthers’ defense gave up 360 yards on the ground in their 33-21 loss last Friday at Greensburg.

In those four games, Providence outscored Mitchell, 168-14. … This season is the fourth consecutive year that Providence has started with New Albany and Floyd Central in back-to-back weeks. The Pioneers are 4-4 against the two Class 5A schools in that span.
• MATCHUP TO WATCH: Providence’s offense vs. Mitchell’s defense — The Pioneers’ offense has averaged 30 points per game so far in 2010. The Bluejackets have surrendered 40 points a clip in their first two contests.

After falling behind early, the Providence Pioneers scrapped and clawed their way back. Unfortunately that was required on one occasion too many, and the Pioneers fell to Paoli 55-39 in the semifinals of the Class 2A Pekin Sectional.

New Albany’s Hannah Manger will get one more chance to compete this season after making the top 16 in two events at the preliminary round of the IHSAA State Swimming Championship Meet.
