Also for Class 3A No. 8 Silver Creek, Hannah Smith and Alex Carlton each made eight digs and Aubrey Lay had four service aces.

Silver Creek (8-1) will host Jeffersonville on Tuesday. Charlestown will travel to Christian Academy of Indiana on Tuesday.

“Our serving game was good. We were very efficient,” Borden head coach D.J. Zipp said. “We were a little flat defensively tonight, but I think that will change once we get comfortable in our new lineup. It’s definitely nice to finally have everyone healthy.”

The Braves will travel to South Central tonight.

Henryville will travel to New Washington next Thursday.

• Highlanders down Bedford: Junior Morgan Wilson dished out 25 assists and served seven aces to lead host Floyd Central past Bedford North Lawrence, 25-21, 25-14, 25-17.

BOYS’ TENNIS

• No. 11 Jeff downs No. 10 Center Grove: Jeffersonville’s No. 2 singles player Shane Burke and No. 3 singles player Dan Ott each pulled out three-set matches to lead the No. 11 Red Devils past No. 10 and defending state runner-up Center Grove on the road, 3-2.

With the Trojans up 2-1, Ott tied the score at two when he downed Conner Whiteside, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Burke then sewed up the victory at two singles, rallying from first-set tiebreak setback to upend Austin Rudell, 6-7(11-9), 6-1, 6-3.

“We could have easily lost 4-1, but we had some big plays by Shane Burke and Dan Ott at the end,” Red Devil head coach Mark Reilly said.

At No. 1 singles, Jeff’s Patrick Elliott bounced back from his loss to Silver Creek’s Jacob Perkins on Wednesday with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over the Trojans’ Luke Anderson.

The Red Devils will host Bloomington North and Castle in a double-dual match at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

• Braves get swept by New Albany: New Albany rolled to a 5-0 victory over host Borden. Winning for the Bulldogs in singles action were Alex Stewart, Kyle Landrum and Kris Thomas.

New Albany’s No. 1 doubles team of Christian Meyer and Luke Garmon downed Luke Calfee and Matt Smith, 6-3, 6-2. At two doubles, the Bulldog pair of Robby Erskine and Shuaib Mirani upended Jared Sanders and Clint Morris, 6-0, 6-1.

“I hope that this match is a learning experience for my players,” Borden head coach Fin Burton said. “This match showed how much work we have to do to be a really good team. New Albany put away points that they were suppose to, they kept the ball in play, and the doubles teams did what they needed to do to win the match. I was very happy with the effort that Matt Smith gave us today. He did what I ask of him in terms of serving and providing energy for us at one doubles.”

The Braves head to South Central today.

• Providence beats crosstown rival Generals: Providence singles players Nolan Carrico and Derek Benebig each picked up singles triumphs in a 4-1 victory at Clarksville. Carrico was the winner at two singles, while Benebig won at the No. 3 spot.

The Pioneers (2-1) won at both doubles spots. Nick Finn and Andrew Jerdonek won at the No. 1 position, while Providence won by forfeit at the No. 2 slot.

“Nolan played a tight first set. But with a little coaching and some confidence, he played a mistake-free and aggressive second set,” Pioneers’ head coach Scott Gurgol said. “Derek played his first varsity singles match today. He played consistent tennis and made good choices on when to attack.

“Our No. 1 doubles took advantage of a chance to settle a score. Clarksville’s No. 1 doubles played us very tough in a tournament last weekend, so Nick and Andrew came out today with something to prove. They set the tone early and controlled the middle of the court better today.”

Austin Johnson scored the lone point for the Generals, winning at No. 1 singles over Brenden Popson 6-3, 7-6(7-5).

Providence hosts New Albany today at Community Park in New Albany. Clarksville will entertain New Washington on Tuesday.
