The Jeffersonville wrestling team went 8-0 during the Mt. Vernon (Posey) Turkey Classic this past weekend.
The Red Devils defeated South Spencer (69-9), Evansville North (60-9), Wood Memorial (80-0), Mt. Vernon (46-16), Forest Park (51-20), Gibson Southern (43-33), Evansville Central (60-17) and Owen Valley (54-22).
Four Jeff grapplers went undefeated during the meet. They were Evon Russel at 119 pounds (8-0), Martin Dorsey at 145 (8-0), Trea Burgess at 215 (7-0) and Jake Gibson at heavyweight (8-0). Two Red Devils compiled 7-1 records, who were Jon Reed at 103 and Justin Cunningham at 171.
“Our guys wrestled whistle-to-whistle. That is all we can ask of them,” Jeff coach Danny Struck said. “We some hard-fought matches. Our guys worked hard on the mat, and it showed.”
The Red Devils will compete in the Hoosier Hills Conference Duals on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s matches will be at Floyd Central, while Saturday’s action will be at Jeff.
