NEW WASHINGTON —
The New Washington boys’ tennis team moved over the .500 mark in dual matches on Friday with a 3-2 home victory over Southwestern.
The Mustangs won both doubles positions. At the No. 1 spot, Travis McKim and Wesley Napier upended Southwestern’s Jarrod Perry and Adam Jackson 6-3, 6-2. At the No. 2 position, New Washington’s Joe Hobson and Colin Schindler knocked off Camden Bentley and Brynen Chitwood, 7-6(8-6), 5-7, 6-3. The Mustangs’ Jake Zimmerman won at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
“This was a brand new lineup for us and I was fairly pleased with it,” New Washington coach Wayne Davis said. “Also, Wes and Travis just keep finding ways to win their spot.”
NEXT: New Washington (5-4) at Lanesville, Monday.
• Generals earn first victory of season: Clarksville, which has only three players on its roster, defeated host Christian Academy for its first victory of the season, 3-2. The Generals swept all three singles matches that were won by Austin Johnson, Adam Bryant and Brent Potter.
NEXT: Clarksville hosts Charlestown, Monday; Christian Academy at Shawe Memorial, Tuesday.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
• Bulldogs prevail at Seymour: Laura Millis scored two goals in New Albany’s 3-0 victory on Thursday at Seymour. The Bulldogs’ Tanner Marcum had a goal and an assist and teammate Sara Tebault had an assist.
NEXT: New Albany hosts Salem, Monday.
BOYS’ SOCCER
• Dragons lose at Corydon Central: On Thursday’s Caleb Scarbrough scored Silver Creek’s lone goal in a 3-1 loss at Corydon Central. John Osterhoudt had seven saves for the Dragons.
