H.S. FOOTBALL: Turnovers doom Clarksville in 31-14 loss at Corydon

Panthers score 21 points in second half

CORYDON — Three Clarksville turnovers led to 21 Corydon Central points in the second half as the visiting Generals suffered a 31-14 loss on Friday night.

Clarksville (1-3, 1-2 Mid-Southern Conference) took a 14-10 advantage at halftime. The Generals went up 7-0 with 3:23 remaining in the first quarter when junior Alex Hinson caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Aidan McEwen.

But after Corydon place-kicker Cory Thomas nailed a 42-yard field goal in the second quarter, the Class 3A No. 6 Panthers (4-0, 3-0) took their first lead of the night on a 4-yard run by Alex McAfee with 2:18 left in the first half.

Clarksville regained the lead when time expired in the half. Junior Marquise Parrish caught a 4-yard pass from McEwen to put the Generals up four.

It was all Corydon in the second half.

Dylan Jensen recovered a fumble and returned the ball 54 yards with 5:44 left in the third quarter to give the Panthers a 17-14 advantage. Following a Clarksville turnover, Tyler Ross received a 4-yard touchdown pass from Chase Burton at the 2:26 mark of the third to put Corydon up 24-14.

Another Clarksville turnover set up the Panthers’ final score. Corydon’s Mitch Akers caught a 10-yard scoring toss from Burton with 11:52 remaining in regulation.

The Generals will host Salem next Friday.
