LOUISVILLE —
Christian Academy of Louisville held Providence to 137 total yards and beat the Pioneers 31-7 on Friday.
“They were a good defense,” Providence coach Larry Denison said of CAL. “They gave us problems. They had two weeks to prepare for us and they executed very well.
The Pioneers trailed 14-7 in the final seconds of the first half. At the 3-yard line, Denison decided to go for the tie. Christian Academy’s defense met Owen Mattingly in the backfield as the half ended.
“They came off the ball better than we did tonight,” Denison said. “They played harder than we did.”
Matt Bell scored Providence’s only touchdown on a 3-yard run in the second quarter. Mattingly rushed for 71 yards and caught all three of Nathan Banet’s passes for 19 yards.
Providence is now 2-3 with a two-game losing streak and 4-1 Jeffersonville coming up next Friday.
“We’ve got to find some guys who can get the job done,” Denison said. “The schedule doesn’t get any easier. We have to start buckling down and find out what we can do.”
