Kimmel ends up fourth at Salem

Clarksville native Frank Kimmel finished fourth in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic last Saturday at Salem Speedway. The nine-time ARCA Racing Series champion rallied from being a lap down to earn the top-five finish.

But Kimmel lost ground in the ARCA point standings, as he now trails point leader Chris Buescher by 85 points. Buescher wound up second at Salem.

“We stayed out too long on tires and it caught us and we got a lap down,” Kimmel said. “We came in and put on four [tires] to get our lap back and drove right back to the front there. We were getting caught up pretty quick, but just ran out of time there at the end. But we were able to rebound to get a nice finish.”

Tom Hessert won the race, followed by Chase Elliott, the son of 1988 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Bill Elliott, in third. Alex Bowman placed fifth.

Frankie Kimmel, the son of Frank Kimmel, wound up seventh. The younger Kimmel led 34 laps during the middle portion of the race.

Henryville resident Darrell Basham placed 17th, while Sellersburg resident Will Kimmel ended up 25th. Will Kimmel is Frank Kimmel’s nephew and Frankie Kimmel’s cousin.

ARCA’s next race will be the rescheduled Southern Illinois 100 on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the DuQuoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds.
