C’town’s Hawkins named Colts Coach of the Week

Charlestown football coach Jason Hawkins has been named the Indianapolis Colts/NFL Coach of the Week.

Hawkins guided the Class 3A No. 2 Pirates to a 47-0 victory at Class 3A No. 10 Corydon Central last Friday. The win clinched Charlestown a share of the Mid-Southern Conference championship.

Hawkins will be presented the award in a ceremony at the school at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The Colts will be sending a former player who works for the team to Charlestown to give Hawkins the award and make a motivational speech to students. The high school will receive $1,000 apiece from the NFL Youth Football Fund and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the corporate sponsor of the award.

Hawkins has a 47-15 record in his six seasons at Charlestown.

Jeff advises different route to Columbus East on Friday

The Jeffersonville High School athletic department advised parents and fans on Monday that Hwy. 46 and Hwy. 11 near Columbus will be under construction on Friday, when the Red Devils’ football team will play at Class 4A No. 1 Columbus East.

The Jeff athletic office suggests the Red Devil faithful to take the following route: Take the U.S. Hwy. 50 East exit at Seymour; turn left or north onto U.S. Hwy. 31 toward Columbus; turn left at Hwy. 7; Columbus East High School will be on your right at the first light, which is Marr Road.
