> SOUTHERN INDIANA — ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Melanie Stutsman, Floyd Central graduate (Western Kentucky volleyball, Fr.) — weekly stats: 111 assists, 29 digs, 19 kills, four blocks (four assist), two aces; top performance: match-high 34 assists, 12 digs, four kills and three blocks in the Hilltoppers’ four-set win over Central Michigan last Saturday in Purdue’s Mortar Board Premier tournament in West Lafayette; notes: Stutsman made the Mortar Board Premier’s all-tournament team; team record: 2-2.



CHRISTIAN ACADEMY OF INDIANA

• Kayla Koerber (Lindsey Wilson volleyball, Jr.) — weekly stats: 17 kills, five digs, five blocks (two solo, three assist), one service ace; team record: 1-4.



FLOYD CENTRAL

• Alex Adams (Campbellsville men’s soccer, Sr.) — top performance: one goal, which Adams scored in the 24th minute, in the Tigers’ 4-0 home victory over Freed-Hardman in their season opener last Friday; team record: 1-0.

• Laura Der (Marshall volleyball, Fr.) — weekly stats: 43 digs, 16 kills, one assist, one ace, one block; top performance: match-high 20 digs and four kills in the Thundering Herd’s four-set loss to Notre Dame in the Shamrock Invitational in South Bend last Friday; team record: 0-3.

• Ashlie Haworth (Lindsey Wilson volleyball, So.) — weekly stats: 35 kills, 24 digs, five service aces, two blocks (one solo, one assist); top performance: team-high 14 kills, team-high four aces, three digs and two blocks in a three-set victory over West Virginia Tech in the Shawnee State Invitational Tournament last Saturday in Portsmouth, Ohio; team record: 1-4.

• Lauren McCartin (IU Southeast volleyball, Jr.) — season stats thus far: 30 digs, two service aces; team record: 1-3.

• Lindsey Ragland (IU Southeast volleyball, So.) — season stats thus far: 22 kills, 18 digs, five assists, three blocks; team record: 1-3.

• Katy Schad (Marshall volleyball, So.) — weekly stats: 32 digs, two aces, two assists, one kill; top performance: 15 digs in Marshall’s four-set loss to Notre Dame in the Shamrock Invitational last Friday; team record: 0-3.

• Kelsey Traughber (Franklin women’s soccer, So.) — notes: Traughber started for the Golden Eagles in a 2-1 loss in their season opener on Wednesday at Franklin; team record: 0-1.



JEFFERSONVILLE

• Jamie Goldsmith (Iowa Western CC football, So.) — top performance: 10 rushes for 44 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown run, in the Reivers’ 63-6 home victory over Highland last Saturday; team record: 1-0.

• Chelsea Grover (Western Kentucky women’s soccer, Sr.) — notes: Grover started at defender in a double-overtime scoreless tie last Friday at Ole Miss and came off the bench in the Hilltoppers’ 2-1 home loss to defending Big Ten champion Minnesota last Sunday. Grover has played in all three of Western’s matches this season with one start; team record: 0-2-1.



NEW ALBANY

• Jonah Bishop (Franklin men’s soccer, Fr.) — notes: Bishop started in the Golden Eagles’ season-opening tie on Wednesday at Franklin, 3-3; team record: 0-0-1.

• Emily Knight (IU Southeast volleyball, So.) — season stats thus far: 17 digs, two kills; team record: 1-3.

• Kaitlin Robinett (Evansville women’s soccer, Fr.) — notes: Robinett had one shot in the Purple Aces’ 1-1 tie with Valparaiso last Sunday at home; the former Bulldog has played in three games this season, starting two of them; team record: 0-2-1.

• Hannah Sullivan (Ball State volleyball, Sr.) — weekly stats: three kills, one dig, one block (one assist); team record: 3-0.

• Brandi Waller (Middle Tennessee State volleyball, So.) — weekly stats: five kills, one block (one assist), one ace; team record: 2-1.



NEW WASHINGTON

• Lindsay Krohn (Bluffton volleyball, Fr.) — notes: Krohn played one set in Bluffton’s season opener against Adrian on Wednesday at home; team record: 1-0.



PROVIDENCE

• Elizabeth Fuchs (Spalding women’s soccer, Fr.) — notes: Fuchs started in Spalding’s 2-1 season-opening setback on Wednesday at Franklin; team record: 0-1.



SACRED HEART

• Alexis Bauer (Samford volleyball, Floyds Knobs native, So.) — weekly stats: 29 digs, 10 assists; top performance: team-high 11 digs and five assists in the Bulldogs’ three-set victory over Missouri-Kansas City in the Arkansas Invitational last Saturday; team record: 3-1.



SILVER CREEK

• Lindsey Maymon (IU Southeast volleyball, So.) — season stats thus far: 28 kills, four service aces, 12 digs, three blocks; team record: 1-3.

    After falling behind early, the Providence Pioneers scrapped and clawed their way back. Unfortunately that was required on one occasion too many, and the Pioneers fell to Paoli 55-39 in the semifinals of the Class 2A Pekin Sectional.

    New Albany’s Hannah Manger will get one more chance to compete this season after making the top 16 in two events at the preliminary round of the IHSAA State Swimming Championship Meet.

    Highland Hills’ seventh-grade boys and Parkview’s eighth-graders each won Clark-Floyd Tournament championships Thursday at Silver Creek Middle School.
    The Highland Hills’ seventh-graders outscored Parkview 12-3 in the final 2:42 for a 34-31 victory. Parkview’s eighth-graders also earned a come-from-behind triumph with a 21-5 fourth quarter to avenge their only loss of the season, 63-50 over Silver Creek.

    The Jeffersonville boys’ basketball team captured a piece of its first Hoosier Hills Conference championship since the 2005-06 season on Thursday night, winning at Jennings County 57-55.

    • Braydon Hobbs (Bellarmine men’s basketball, New Albany graduate, Sr.) — weekly stats: 13.5 points per game, 10-of-19 field goals, 5-of-12 3-pointers, 2-of-3 free throws, 12 assists, 11 rebounds, five blocked shots, four steals; top performance: 16 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field, 2-of-6 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the line, seven rebounds, game-high four blocked shots, four assists and team-high three steals in the Knights’ 80-75 win last Saturday at Lewis; notes: Hobbs has made the Capital One Academic All-District IV Team for NCAA Division II. Hobbs’ eight assists in last Thursday’s win at Wisconsin-Parkside broke Bellarmine‘s all-time assist record; team records: 20-1 overall, 12-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference.

    It was a rough night for Clark County teams at the Class 3A Charlestown Sectional Wednesday night. The host Pirates put up a gallant fight in Game 1 before falling to Class 3A No. 8 Brownstown Central, 45-37, while defending sectional champion Silver Creek was upset by Corydon Central in Game 2, 50-44.
