HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: NA’s Landrum wins sectional semifinal

Bulldog singles player defeats Braun, 6-2, 7-6

FLOYDS KNOBS — New Albany boys’ tennis player Kyle Landrum advanced to today’s Floyd Central individual singles sectional final on Thursday by defeating Charlestown senior Chris Braun in the semifinal, 6-2, 7-6(4). Braun ended his season with a 24-2 record.

“It was tough to watch a player like Chris have his career come to an end,” said Charlestown coach Chris Ryan, who mentioned that Braun has been named to the Indiana All-Star team. “He has had a great career, growing into such a competitor and one of the top three players in the area. He has made a name for himself that will be remembered among the best in Charlestown’s history.”

Landrum faces Jeffersonville’s Jordy Rigsby in today’s sectional final at 4:30 p.m. at Floyd Central.



VOLLEYBALL

• Bulldogs down Silver Creek: Alexis Lete had 14 kills and three blocks to lead host New Albany past Silver Creek on Thursday, 25-13, 18-25, 25-7, 25-22.

The Bulldogs’ Nicole Jones spiked 13 kills and made five service aces, while teammate McKenzie Prince dished out 34 assists. New Albany’s Sara Schad had 19 digs.

“It was a great win for the Bulldogs,” Bulldogs’ coach John Breeding said. “It was an outstanding team effort and we had great chemistry.”

NEXT: New Albany at Heritage Hills, next Thursday; Silver Creek at Brebeuf Jesuit Tournament, Saturday.

• Mustangs roll past Clarksville: New Washington swept visiting Clarksville in three sets on Thursday at Matthews Gymnasium, 25-21, 25-9, 25-16.

Caroline Ricks led the Mustangs with 24 kills, eight digs, three service aces and three blocks. Teammate Courtney Amick dished out 23 assists.

Katey Duggan paced the Generals with 10 digs and six kills, while teammate Hannah Elder distributed 14 assists. Clarksville had no service errors.

NEXT: New Washington (14-9) and Clarksville (3-18) at New Washington Invitational, Saturday.
