CLARKSVILLE —
Clarksville’s defense got its second shutout in four weeks and the offense had big plays all night as the Generals pounded North Harrison, 34-0 to get back to .500 on the season.
Aidan McEwen completed an early drive with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Hardin. On the Generals’ next series, McEwen found Hardin again on a 36-yard scoring strike.
On the night, Hardin caught five passes for 114 yards and three scores. He also had an interception, giving him 12 on the season.
“Hardin had another big week,” Clarksville coach Steve Cooley said. “He beat them on corner routes and he beat them on post routes. He’s a great athlete and a complete football player out there for us.”
McEwen completed eight of his 10 passing attempts for 159 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. He found Nathaniel Jones from four yards out to give Clarksville a 20-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and then threw a third touchdown to Hardin — this one from 35 yards out — and the Generals led 34-0 at the break.
“We had some big plays,” Cooley said. “We got some athletes in space and Aidan made things go.”
Clarksville also got big plays in the running game, including a 75-yard touchdown run by Nate Knight early in the second quarter. Knight finished with 111 yards on three carries and Christian Brown added 78 yards as Clarksville finished with 209 yards on the ground.
“Our offensive line did a nice job and opened up some holes and our backs ran hard,” Cooley said.
The General defense, which had given up 72 points over the past two weeks, returned to the form that also earned it a Week 4 shutout over Salem.
“It was a good test against a power running team,” Cooley said. “We know we’ll see it next week against Providence. We had some nice stops and I was pleased that our defense got the shutout and did a good job of getting off the field.”
The Generals clinched fourth place in the Mid-Southern Conference with a final 4-3 mark.
