The IU Southeast women’s basketball team saw its season come to an end on Monday night.
The Grenadiers suffered a 76-51 home loss to Point Park College in the championship game of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. Point Park will play Asbury, a 74-73 winner over Alice Lloyd in Monday’s first semifinal, in tonight’s championship at 8.
After leading 37-36 at halftime, IU Southeast’s shooting went cold in the second half.
The Grenadiers (17-13) connected on 4-of-23 field-goal attempts (17.4 percent) in the final 20 minutes. Point Park (24-6) outscored IU Southeast in the second half, 40-14.
Ashmere Woods led the Grenadiers with 14 points and five rebounds. Teammate Andrea Owen tallied 11 points, while IU Southeast’s Kortney Woods had nine points, five rebounds and three blocked shots.
Also for the Grenadiers, sophomore Heather Wheat had seven rebounds and five assists.
April Austin paced Point Park with 23 points. IU Southeast says goodbye to two seniors in Ashmere and Kortney Woods.
