5:30 P.M. UPDATE: 2 dead, 2 injured in Ind. 60 crash

Police say car crossed the center line and hit two vehicles

CLARK COUNTY — Two people have died following a three-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on Ind. 60 near Borden.

Angela K. Berkley, 24, of Bullitt County, Ky., was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clark County Coroner’s Office. Indiana State Police say Berkley, who was wearing a seat belt, was the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Impala which crossed the center line and struck two vehicles.

Curtis L. Heckel, 24, of Louisville, died at University Hospital in Louisville. Police said Heckel was a back seat passenger in the Impala and was not wearing a seat belt.

A Charlestown man escaped serious injury in the crash. George Napier, 38, of Charlestown, was traveling east on Ind. 60 shortly after 6:30 a.m. when the Impala, heading west, crossed the center line and struck the front end of Napier’s 1995 Land Rover, according to an ISP release. The collision caused minor damage to the Land Rover and Napier was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt.

After the initial impact with the Land Rover, the Impala traveled about 300 feet before striking a Ford F-150 pickup truck also traveling eastbound.

Jason Orme, 33, of Charlestown, a front-seat passenger in the Impala was seriously injured and transported to University Hospital via air ambulance. He was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the pickup truck, William Piper, 29, of Salem, was also taken by air ambulance to University Hospital with serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.

ISP reports Ind. 60 was closed for about four hours due to the crash.
