SELLERSBURG —
One person was killed in a wreck on Interstate 65 northbound at the 10.9 mile marker Friday morning.
Derrick W. Fondern, 32, of Thompson Lane in Louisville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
Indiana State Police troopers at the Sellersburg post responded to a call at 8:19 a.m. According to a state police post news release, a 2001 Freightliner semi-tractor and trailer loaded with scrap steel was parked on the right side of the interstate having mechanical problems.
Fondern, who was driving a gray 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer northbound at an unknown speed, crashed into the rear of the parked semi and then crossed the roadway striking a northbound gray 2002 Ford Taurus.
The driver of the semi-tractor and trailer, Farah Muse Awad, 43, of Columbus, Ohio, and the driver of the Taurus, Lee E. Wilcher, 86, of Louisville, were not injured.
The preliminary investigation revealed Fondern was not wearing a seat belt. The other drivers were wearing seat belts.
